Book Description In 1946 at the beginning of the Cold War, the USSR government organized a special institute on infrared techniques and electro-optics, later renamed the Federal Scientific Center "Orion." On the occasion of the Orion Corporation's 60th anniversary, this volume chronicles the development and achievements of IR techniques, photoelectronics, and other related technologies in the former USSR and Russia. It contains more than 500 photographs of Russian researchers and IR devices, most published here for the first time.
