Hacienda Style
Product Description Invite the rich colors, natural textures, and romantic beauty of Mexico into your home From the Inside Flap With a vast architectural heritage spanning four centuries, Mexican haciendas express a rugged romantic beauty whose arcaded silhouettes, rich colors, and natural textures are an ever-increasing influence for architects and designers worldwide. Hacienda Home heralds the grandeur of Mexico's colonial treasures and reveals the innovations sparking their revived roles and new interpretations. Having opened the doors to Mexico's restored country estates in their 1999 book The New Hacienda, authors and designers Witynski and Carr invite you in for a closer view of the design details that create the essence of hacienda style. Their extensive travels brim with exotic locations: the henequen haciendas and colonial homes of Yucatan and Campeche, the sugar estates of Morelos, and the chocolate haciendas of Tabasco. Whether one is restoring a colonial home or adding antique ornament to a new hacienda-style home, the integration of old-world architectural elements provides hacienda character both inside and out. Carved-stone columns and elegant arches frame views to lush tropical gardens and glistening pools; colonial doors and spindled window grilles stand guard against towering, deep red walls; and hand-hewn beams support palm-filled corridors. Generously proportioned salas are resplendent with colorful yellow ocher walls, decorative stencils, artful treasures, and colonial antiques. A awesome photographic tour, Hacienda Home invites you to step inside the expanse of cool tiled rooms, breezy portales, and soothing water gardens to experience the grace of hacienda living. Award-winning authors of the popular Mexican design book series-Mexican Country Style, The New Hacienda, Casa Adobe, Adobe Details, Casa Yucatan, and Mexican Details-Karen Witynski and Joe P. Carr were awarded La Pluma de Plata (The Silver Pen) from Mexico's Ministry of Tourism for The New Hacienda. As designers and antiques dealers, they have been at the forefront of the Mexican design movement for more than twenty-five years. Based in Austin, Texas, Witynski and Carr are owners of Joe P. Carr Design, a gallery and design firm specializing in hacienda style, colonial furniture, and architectural elements. They have designed and renovated homes and haciendas throughout the United States and Mexico and have collaborated on numerous commercial design projects, including boutique hotels and restaurants. The authors have been featured in national magazines and television programs, including Architectural Digest, Western Interiors, House gorgeous and HGTV's Takeover My Makeover. In celebration of Mexico's rich traditional paint colors, Witynski and Carr have collaborated with Pittsburgh Paints to create The Hacienda Home Color Palette. Karen Witynski's photographs and articles appear in national design publications and Joe P. Carr is a hacienda design consultant and furniture designer. Together they divide their time between Mexico and their hacienda-style home in Texas. www.mexicanstyle.com
